First sculpture. Lovely, isn't it? Also part of the english assignment for 1984.
Plasteline, Never hardening clay with hanger wire.
*For Mrs. Springer*
The Rose as a flower represents freedom and beauty. The rose specifically was given for love back in the medieval times, and is represented as such today. Winston at first is seeking after love, freedom, and beauty and for a short time finds this in Julia. The ironic thing about the piece is, no matter how beautiful it looks or seems, it is bleak, gray, and hopeless. (the clay is a gray plasteline, it never hardens and is permanently malleable) This irony is representing Winston cracking in the end, being a victim of his own nervous system.
